Quick answers before you order

Only if the test asks for it, and it says so. Fasting: only water after 22:00 the evening before, at least 8 hours. No coffee or tea that morning, and the draw before 10:00. Drinking water is always fine.

€89,-, and the blood draw comes with it. You pay yourself; no separate draw costs.

No. We arrange the referral through ZorgDomein, within one business day; ordered after 17:00 or at the weekend, it moves to the next business day. The ZorgDomein email holds a barcode, which you show at the draw site. A few draw sites work differently: there you choose a time on your order page, or we schedule it.

No. A test you request yourself is not in the basic Dutch insurance. You pay yourself, outside your deductible (eigen risico).

Count on one business day, a day later if ordered after 17:00 or at the weekend: then the referral email is ready, and without a referral you are not drawn. After that: walk in without an appointment at some draw sites, by appointment at the rest. Each location shows it.

The barcode from the ZorgDomein email and a valid ID. Barcode on your phone is fine. No BSN? Then no barcode in the email; print the referral form from the link in it.

Yes, just take it, unless your own doctor said otherwise. Some tests ask for more, such as no alcohol or no heavy training beforehand. For how long is on the test and in the instructions with your order.

About a quarter of an hour: you show your barcode and ID and blood is taken.

In an independent, certified laboratory from the network Snelbloedonderzoek works with, nationwide. Those laboratories also manage the draw sites; they do not belong to Snelbloedonderzoek. Reference values can deviate slightly per lab.

No. The test does not go through your GP and does not enter your medical record. Data goes to a healthcare provider only with your written consent, and it is never sold. Anonymous is not possible: a valid result needs your name, date of birth and a valid ID.

What this test measures

Per value, the unit and the turnaround the performing laboratory quotes.

Values in this test, with unit and turnaround
No. Value Unit Turnaround
01 TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) mu/l Turnaround 48 hours, estimate
02 Total T3 (Triiodothyronine) nmol/l Turnaround 48 hours, estimate

Preparation

What to do or avoid before the draw, derived per value.

  1. Pause biotin

    Required

Do you take a supplement with biotin (vitamin B8, common in hair, skin and nail supplements)? Stop it 72 hours before the draw. Biotin interferes with the measurement of these values.

  2. Timing worth knowing

    Good to know

If you repeat this test, pick the same time of day each time so the results compare.

  • Water is always fine. Drink as usual beforehand, it makes the draw easier.
  • Take your usual medication, unless your own doctor told you otherwise.
